CNN —And the Razzie goes to…Every year around Oscars time, when the greatest in cinema is celebrated, an alternative awards ceremony is held that singles out the worst (at least, according to them) in movies – the Razzie Awards. Around since 1981, this 44th edition of the infamous “honors” counted Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and Ana de Armas among the nominees for worst actor and actress. Fury of the Gods” and the bland “Exorcist: Believer” were up for worst film of 2023. But in a bad sign for the now-public domain figure Mickey Mouse, the horror film “Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey” took home the Razzie for worst picture, the awards association announced on Saturday. The “Winnie the Pooh” horror film won four other awards, including worst screen couple for Pooh and Piglet as “Blood-Thirsty Slasher/Killers (!

With a dearth of new releases in cinemas, Paramount Pictures' Tina Fey-scripted musical “Mean Girls” pushed its two-week total past $50 million, along with $16.2 million internationally. The top 10 films collectively accounted for just $51.3 million in box office, according to Comscore. The Jason Statham thriller “The Beekeeper,” from Amazon MGM Studios, remained in second place, grossing $8.5 million in its second weekend to bring its total to $31.1 million. Warner Bros. “Wonka,” six weeks into its smash run in theaters, was third, with $6.4 million in ticket sales. The theatrical box office this holiday weekend was awash in “Mean Girls,” and TikTok may have been at least partly responsible for its domination. (Paramount Pictures expects “Mean Girls” to reach $32 million once receipts from the federal holiday on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King’s Birthday are added.) The news was a welcome reprieve for the theatrical box office, which did not benefit from a giant year-end blockbuster that often carries over into the new year. “Mean Girls” also offers confirmation that Paramount’s aggressive digital marketing strategies were successful. The studio spent considerable effort using the original film, which grossed $130 million worldwide, as the best form of promotion for this new version.

Winter storms and cinema closures in North America didn’t dampen the opening weekend for “ Mean Girls. Not accounting for inflation, that’s more than the $24.4 million the first movie made in its opening weekend. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham weren't enough to save “ Expend4bles ” from a debut box office flop. The Lionsgate and Millennium's film, also known as “Expendables 4,” pulled in a mediocre $8.3 million for the big-budget project. It starred several popular names, including Stallone, Statham, Curtis “50 Cent" Jackson, Megan Fox and Dolph Lundgren. It's been nearly a decade since the franchise released a film, which opened with $15.8 million and eventually grossed $214 million globally. But times have certainly changed, as the film barely placed second behind “The Nun 2," a horror movie that earned $8.4 million in its first week.

For the unlucky few who experience shark attacks, the ordeal is undoubtedly terrifying. Yet every summer, stories about shark attacks top homepages. Unlike shark attacks on humans, which are mainly attributed to curiosity, we know exactly what we’re doing. Throughout, the great white is characterized as a dogged predator obsessed with human flesh. I’d never suggest that the victims of shark attacks had it coming, or that cinemagoers should feel an iota of shame.

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium, July 30 (Reuters) - "Sparky" radio exchanges between Max Verstappen and his long-time race engineer Gianpiero "GP" Lambiase entertained a global audience during Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix but also raised questions about the rapport between the two. Verstappen, completely dominant on track with his eighth win in a row for Red Bull, said all was fine and the pair had a very good relationship. "You used a lot of tyre on the out-lap Max, not sure that was sensible," the engineer observed in another comment. "GP and Max have been together since the first race that Max stepped into the car," he added. "To race engineer Max Verstappen you've got to have strength of character, because he is one tough customer and many race engineers would crumble under that pressure," he said.

Over the course of his decades-long career, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has learned a thing or two about success. He's a Grammy-winning rapper, successful businessman and a prolific actor who stars and produces in both TV and film. "One of the unwritten laws of power is to appear not to need anything," Jackson said. Jackson met movie producer Avi Lerner when he was already a millionaire from his rap career. Jackson has since produced dozens of TV shows and films — like "Power" and "Power Book II: Ghost" — with plenty more on the way.

Summer movie preview 2023

CNN —Most moviegoers can pinpoint one summer movie – or perhaps, a summer of movies – in their formative years that really and truly cemented their love for going to the cinema, whether it be 1975’s “Jaws,” “E.T. And while streaming has clearly siphoned off part of the audience, particularly for more serious films, what we think of as “summer movies” still have the potential to rake in cash just like the old days. (CNN and DC are both part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Courtesy Warner Bros. PicturesInitially meant for streaming platforms, this vehicle will herald the cinematic arrival of DC Studios’ first Latino superhero, played by Xolo Maridueña of “Cobra Kai” and “Parenthood” fame. If the fast-paced trailer is any indication, the movie looks sure to whisk those dog days of summer doldrums away quite nicely.
Miramax built out a film development team early in the pandemic to bring in new projects and filmmakers. "He's the perfect leader to take the Miramax film team into this next chapter." Hammer's credits as a production executive include "Last Vegas" and "Inside Llewyn Davis." The first source said the film development team had worked to turn the company's reputation around by emphasizing relationships with respected filmmakers. But this person and an independent producer familiar with the Hollywood landscape, agreed that Miramax is no longer a top player in film development.
Here are facts that "Jaws," "Finding Nemo," and "The Meg" got wrong — and one that's right. NOAA fisheriesIt's those scales that make the shark nose the wrong target for a sucker punch. When Dory hits her nose, her blood goes straight into the shark's nose. So "Finding Nemo" hit the nail on the head when they showed blood actually going into the shark's nose, she said. Gerard Soury/Getty ImagesSharks in "Finding Nemo" might want to fight their urges to eat fish, but it's not in their nature.
